Are you kidding? All over the place. All else aside, River is apparently one because she has (or eventually will have) a graduate degree, good to know.
I figured as much, but I had hoped that people moved beyond that. I'm just tired of female characters instantly being called a Mary Sue, regardless if they fit the bill or not. It's like the Boy Who Cried Wolf or something. The Girls Who Cried Sue. Rose, River, Reinette, Sally Sparrow, etc... GET OVER IT, GUYS.
It is (though the demon's initial "approach" is very different), and yet it still made me jump. The original Ringu also scared the crap out of me, though it's since been imitated so many times it mightn't have the same impact.
Whatever, dude, it still frightened me. I brought the episode in to watch while I work today, but I may have to conveniently hide that particular scene.
PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who lost their shit at the wall graffiti "GENE <3 SAM". Or when Alex wrote down "Gene/Sam" on her notepad. I just about died.
You are TOTALLY NOT. I had a literal spit take, nearly fall-off-chair moment. Oh, show. <3

No shit was actually lost at my house but I did have an affectionate chuckle. Also, I was disappointed that there was no - or if there was I missed it - moment where everything goes dim around Chris' face and we hear a faint bit of 'Life On Mars?' Why do Shazza and Ray get that but not my little Chris? IS HE NOT WORTHY? Also also, 6/6/20, if we discard one 6, that's my birthday in American dates. 20 June! CLEARLY THE SHOW IS SENDING ME A MESSAGE.
* My one quibble for this episode is that I had a hard time believing that River would survive being out in space just before the TARDIS scoops her up. I know, I know, I'm complaining about SKIENCE, but it did knock me out for just a moment.
She does ask for an air corridor. I think she was floating through that.
haha, i was about to post this same thing. yah, she asks the doctor for an air corridor after giving her coordinates.
but humans can survive limited exposure to a vacuum anyway, and she was only outside for a few seconds (i mean, a bunch of her capillaries would have burst under her skin and she would have looked horrible, but she could have!)
Yeah, I just rewatched it and I heard it this time. Go me! And a few other things that I missed. Sometimes, you just need to LISTEN to an episode.

LIES. THIS IS NOT WHAT HOLLYWOOD HAS TOLD ME. FOR WE ALL KNOW THAT HOLLYWOOD SPEAKS THE TROOTH.
Man is fandom ever NOT crying "Mary Sue" about someone? I am so tired of hearing that word -_- and I cant believe people are calling AMY a mary sue after two episodes in which she does very helpful but minor things! I mean by that measure was Ace a Mary Sue? Was Romana's 1 and 2 mary Sue's? or does the all the high pitched shrieking the actresses were written doing half the time, balance out the "mary sue-ness"? -_- Sorry, I am getting my bitterness all over your lj D:
I think fandom or the sensible part anyway has sort of settled down on River, alot more people seem to like her now and those that dont arent going on about how much they hate her anymore. Good sign I'd say.
Everyone loved the Sam/Gene thing XD I thoughtit was cute but I didnt get as excited as I think I was supposed to lol. (I'll get excited when I see John Simm in A2A. if that happens)
