Thank you all for the warm birthday wishes! basalt came over to make sure I wasn’t alone and brought delicious cheesecake with her. We putzed around and watch 30 Rock and Law & Order and stuffed our faces. Then gina_r_snape and elrina753 completely surprised me by showing up on my doorstep with cupcakes, they too making sure I wasn’t alone. <3 ( Read more... )

Looking at the Canon G10... How heavy/big is it? I have a friend who has a *beautiful* SLR camera, but she also had to have a point and shoot camera. Because if you're taking the SLR, you're taking the *camera* out. It's the focus, because it's so big and expensive. A little point and shoot one that can fit into a pocket or normal backpack is so nice and handy, as long as it gives you pictures that are good enough for what you need.

Which really is the heart of the matter. What do you need the camera for? Are you going to be taking pictures of people and places, for memories? Or do you want to get more into taking great photos that are... Iunno, art prints or something?

All in all.... I'd love a cintiq. We had the little ones at school, and they were super fun. I got to play with the big ones at a job interview I went to, and it was amazing. I'm terrible at line work, but this felt way more natural than even using my pretty pretty intuos3.

I really do like my camera. It's a sony cybershot. Since it's a *sony*, it means it doesn't ( ... )

I'm no photographer, so I'm wondering if the G10 is a bit much for me. I think I'd just like a nicer point-and-shoot because they're so nice and compact. I mostly want it if I'm out and about and want to take photos.

I'm also considering putting the money towards Gallifrey. If I can get a good camera at a decent price, plus a trip to LA to see my parents and geek it up, I'll be happy.

Without knowing much about you (lol), if you feel that it might be a bit much, it probably will. Maybe you could buy one where you could return it if you weren't happy with it? And then you could try it out for yourself, and know for sure.

I just know that if I bought something quite so spiffy, I'd feel like I wasn't using it to it's full spiffiness extent.

If you want it for when you're out and about, it can't be something that's an annoyance to carry, or else you won't bring it, and then your money was wasted.

Perhaps the cintiq can wait until money is more secure, in the future. :`( <-single tear. Enjoy playing with your friends one, though! It would have been so sweet if we could have adjusted the angles that the one was at at the school. It was perfectly adjusted to catch the fluorescents, which put a glare across the screen ( ... )

I also know a happy Lumix owner (I'm still soldiering on with my outdated Sony, myself). Apparently the Panasonics are what pro photogs will carry when they want good-quality pics from something that isn't a bulky SLR.

I picked up a Casio Exilim FC-100 by way of some freelance work, since I needed the high speed video capture for measurements. The high speed video is good fun for as long as you care to fiddle with it, but as a camera I wouldn't recommend it. Outside in daylight it'll give you good pictures, if a bit oversaturated, in any other conditions my sturdy old Pentax Optio 550 gives much better results.

I'm using an older version of the Canon SX120 and really like it. It's also what I used to shoot the video for my Dr. Horrible entry video last year.
