A rant.

So, as quite a few of my LJ pals are aware, it’s been raining endlessly for a couple of weeks now here in the good ol’ NYC area. It’s disgusting. Today would be that same sort of day, so I chose to stay in and watch really awesomely bad 90s movies ( Read more... )

This happens to us a lot, too. We're outside walking to and from walmart/superstore for about fifteen minutes, and usually someone screams at us.

Y'know the only reason they have the guts to yell at someone like that? Because a) we won't understand, it's for their dickhead friends, and b) they'll be far away from us in a second, so they don't have to deal with our reactions.

Trust me, it makes me feel stupid and ugly. How is this ever thought to be acceptable behaviour?

I'm not even in New York, so there isn't even *that* excuse. Jerks.

It's the one-on-one situations that really gross me out.

Oh yes.
That is annoying to the extreme.
I hate it when they add honkng to it or decide to slow down near me.

I completely ignore in the honking because... well, I don't hear honking horns anymore. They're just part of the city atmosphere, I suppose. Plus, the illegal cabs drive by all the time and honk at you, but that's mostly their way of saying "You want a ride?" (and not in a nasty way =^^=)

It happens here occasionally as well, so it's not just the US. Young men are assholes, on the whole. *sigh*

Oh, I'm well aware how universal it (sadly) is, I was just setting the scene! Rainy, gross NYC.

The worse is that the youngest guy doing it today had to have been in their 40s? Most of them were middle-aged.

The thing is, I don't think they even really think of it as a communication directed to YOU, the woman. It's for the benefit of their friends, like wulfae said above, as a general signal of 'Hey! I am a fun funny guy and DEFINITELY NOT A GAY.' What dorks. I'm sorry you encountered them, and I hope the 90s movies went some way to cheer you up.
Rain day after day is so depressing, especially when you guys should be having summer and sunshine. I'm having some winter sun now, which is RILLY nice because an Auckland winter is usually soggy as heck.

Three out of the four dudes were alone, so it wasn't for the benefit of their friends.
