I do it for the LULZ

lostsailors linked me to this, and since I can't really do anything workwise for the time being, may as well read something interesting besides fanfic.

The Trolls Among UsTrolling fascinates and baffles me. I always wonder about people... whether or not they act the same way they do in real life as they are on the Internet (and hiding behind a computer). I ( Read more... )

I saw that too (courtesy of spellingwitch) and bookmarked it for later. The article must be savored. Like a cookie.

And the dude in the picture looks exactly like how I picture trolls to be. *snort*

I've read about four pages when I realized "HEY, I'M NOT WORKING".

Did I ever tell you about one of the random peoples that friended me during the IHD days? She was definitely a troll (I don't know if she started, but she definitely participated and promoted the whole "LOL FURRY" meme) and out of curiosity, I'd click on her journal. Scary and uncomfortable stuff. I just don't get it! They couldn't be a bully in real life and now have to take up the role with a computer?

Gah - no, I never heard about her. O_o

I have a love-hate relationship with the whole anonymity of the interwebs: on the one hand, it's kinda cool that one can create an online identity. On the other, it's not unlike being in a car or being on the phone - people take advantage of being anonymous to act out and be on their very WORST behavior. I used to work at an answering service a looooong time ago, the overnight shift. WOW. O_o

I'll have to tell you about, but in a much more private setting. =^^=

Me too. Though I avoid those hate memes like the plague. I was the subject of one a few years ago and I didn't recognize ANY of the people involved! Seriously! Three people! WTF.

I can definitely see the logic behind that one guy (Fortuny)'s mindset. However I can't wrap my head around his justification of spamming the epileptic website. That's really not about ego or assumed social status or any of the things he's attempting to cut down a notch in people, so I don't see how it's relevant.

Yeah, I don't understand the epilepsy thing either, but "a few days later, he wrote and posted a guide to safe Web surfing for epileptics." Was the whole point in spamming it to prove something?

I LOLed at "Bees are dying."

Personally, I prefer creating and brutally torturing fictional people rather than harassing faceless (yet still real) ones over the Internet.

BEES ARE DYING.

As do I. Or I like to torture Nine in my drawings.

It's like "BEES ARE MISSING" and "BIRDS ARE DYING" had a beautiful dysfunctional child.

You make Nine sad :( The Doctor will never come visit you now.

Ah! Nine might not, but Eight won't know what will hit him! *pumps fist*

Trolls get on my nerves but I try to ignore them for the most part. I find them sad actually. Some of the stuff in that article is really horrible and scary though.

Yeah, I usually do my best to avoid them, too. And yeah, the hacking and stuff terrifies me.
