Owsies

I woke up this morning with a nice painful Charlie horse in my right calf. I didn't yell, but somewhere in the rolling around and grimacing, I managed to wake qarylla up anyway. She was kind enough to try to massage it into submission, probably beyond what is healthy for her hand just now, before I made an effort to use the last hour of sleep time I was ( Read more... )

For the charlie horse -- getting cramps like that usually means you're dehydrated. More water. (:

I don't think you're risking your legs given that you do multiple kinds of acttivity with them. I'd be more concerned if you only did one kind of activity and then took up something extremely different.

By the way, did you get around to taking up hockey? And how's it going, if so?

No hockey just yet. The money has found other places to go than into equipment. I still intend to, but it will probably have to wait for the spring.

*nodsnods* Yep. Hockey equipment is sadly not cheap, not even used. /: But spring is a good time to start -- you'll have some time to get used to it before the summer heat starts.

Potasium. Eat a banana or three today. A shortage of potasium in your muscles is the cause of charlie-horses so getting a super dose of potasium will fix you right up!

I had bananas on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first time in months. It didn't take long for my body to get used to it and then go into withdrawal. :)

If you want me to pick up more bananas I work near the fruit stall and should be able to pick up a large bunch for cheap. I love the fruit guy. Lots of fruit for just about a buck.

Fruit guys @ redline stop in HVD Sq? If so, its friday which means that the farmer's market in front of the charles hotel will be open today from about 12-6pm. The other one, right in front of the building I work in on the other side of harvard yard, is on tuesdays...

Not that this helps you with bananas....

Oh, the other thing that is really good especially after a charlie horse has already taken effect is Tiger Balm linement. Not the balm but the less-easily-available linement. Works much better at deep muscle stuff like charlie-horses. Can be bought at one of the funny herbalist shops in chinatown. Comes in a glass bottle packaged in a box that looks similar to the marketing for the balm.
