Sadly, I won't be getting this game, as it appears that the AI is just as lame as the previous releases. :(
(One of my super-secret powers is being able to deconstruct a game's combat algorithms. Disgaea's was pretty basic, and easily exploitable, as were the psuedo-sequels'.)
The AI thing is a fair complaint. The challenge in Disgaea games comes more from geo puzzles (mostly restricting what you can do) and sheer enemy levels. It may not be the ideal way to make the player's life difficult, but it is a way.
Of course, a generous interpretation of "unit doesn't notice if it hits allies" could be "unit is ruthless and doesn't care about anything other than its enemy's bloody corpse". Or even "go-getter who does what it takes to get the job done".
Sadly, it's becoming a pretty common complaint, too.
It was why I didn't like FFTA, and why Fire Emblem was only good for one iteration for me.
The designers of Advance Wars were at least smart enough to change the targeting priorities between versions, so it was challenging while I figured them out.
