"Helpful" drivers

Just a few minutes ago, I was standing on a street corner, waiting for the traffic to let up so I could cross the street. A driver in the right lane slowed down as he neared me; I waved my arm in the universal "go around me" gesture, and he accelerated past me. I completely agree, and would add that if the cars would just drive past and let me cross when the street is clear, we'd all get to our destinations faster than if we stop to negotiate.

I agree as well. My neighborhood is dominated by a busy four-lane road which I have to cross to get to a decent walking area with sidewalks. There are no crosswalks, so I have to carefully gauge traffic and move out based on the speed and relative positions of the vehicles. If one of them alters their speed for me, it screws up the entire "dance" and it could be really dangerous.
