Thoughful commentary by Doctor Who fans on the new Doctor

They've chosen a new Doctor, and it's a terrible, bad, completely awful choice!

Peter Capaldi is a terrible choice. #Doctorwholive

Peter Capaldi the new Dr Who bad choice in my opinion! That's a step backwards for a programme that has rejuvenated itself!

I don't think the BBC will be bothered by a few illiterate tweets...

Although I do find myself amused by "bad choise appauld". He got the right number of letters - shame they weren't the right ones.

I might suggest "appauld" is one letter short.

I'm with you...don't know much about him at all. I'm glad they're going with an older Doctor. Harkens back to the roots..and will maybe get rid of all the fangirly swooning and hints of romance w/ companions. I'm jokingly saying "Go watch Twilight newbies!" ;-)
Looking forward to see how the new Doctor wins us over.

I faith that Steven Moffat won't handicap Capaldi with the crummy scripts Baker and McGann got.

Based on recent performance, that is reassuringly almost impossible! Poor old Colin Baker, he got a raw deal. I'm happy he's had a chance to become rightfully beloved through Big Finish.

The grandfatherly Doctor belongs to a different time, 50 years ago in fact! Doctor Who is a different show now and its casting of the lead should reflect that. This is such a huge step backwards!
