How many bedrooms in that house?

One option would be to take on a boarder or two for a couple of years (while you have more bedrooms than you need), and a reasonable rent would seem to more than cover the difference in your monthly payments.

And I just happen to know a very nice veterinary student who might be looking for a new place to live by September. Possibly more than one.

(Don't do it as a favor to me. There are loads of reasons this might be a bad idea which spring to mind immediately, but it seems like an interesting enough option to be worth passing the idea along...how much did you love that other house?)

The houses actually have the same number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Just the cheaper one is about 200 square feet smaller, and has an unusable basement (more of a crawl space) versus a full basement with garage. Some of the places we've been looking at have apartments in them, but we're not sure about the landlord thing. We couldn't afford to get screwed. We hadn't considered the roommate thing. Can't hurt to talk it over with Andy.
