Anyways, I saw the film at the AMC Loews on 34th Street, the one for the National Guard. I understand that the army has a need to recruit, and that the army always needs people. We might not agree on the current war, but we should agree that this country does need an army, and brave people willing to protect us. If we didn't have an army, it would be very bad.
I will admit that they are advertising now seems like a complete misadvertisement, and is wrong. Instead of making it seem like some ticket to a better future, why not emphasize something else? Emphasize the fact that we have a need to protect the country, and that those who are brave enough should be willing to put their lives on the line for it. Show people both sides of a military career, the good and the bad.

Anyway, about the ad: my feeling is simply that children--and these ads are aimed at children, well below the age of enlistment--shouldn't be encouraged to join the army in a time of war, for any reason, either glory or thrills or even patriotism. When they're of age to make their own decisions, that's one thing. This is quite another.
Sorry I missed these comments (yours and below) a few weeks ago, btw. Shows how often I check in at the LJ.
