Author's Notes: This is something that I had been working on prior to really bad things happening (family sucks) in my personal life. In an effort to pull my finger out of my ass and get back to it (since I know that Someone wants me to finish it) I'm posting this first part to spur me into writing more. It's un-beta'd and probably in serious need of work! Once again dedicated to Someone.
Part 1
The band all knew it had been a hard time for Gerard and Mikey. It didn't take much to see that Mikey's leaving the band had thrown Gerard into a deep depression. What wasn't so obvious was the cause of Mikey's leaving; they had all heard the argument (it was hard not to overhear things on the bus) but none of them had realised the magnitude at the time. Mikey had yelled something about Gerard looking at him on stage and Gerard had denied it, then after a pause they heard glass breaking followed quickly by Mikey slamming the door of the bus on his way out. Since then they had only seen Mikey once, he had insisted on meeting away from the bus where Gerard was still working. Gerard had spent every waking moment on the new record, churning out songs like some kind of fiend before screwing them all up and angrily throwing them at the overflowing trash can.
Finally, a little over a week later Gerard left the bus. Everyone was pleased until they heard him a short distance away, screaming into his cell phone.
"What do you expect me to do Mikey?!" A short silence was followed by Gerard shouting miserably, "I can't Mikes, I just can't."
That was all they heard and no one saw him for the rest of the evening. Eventually he stumbled back onto the bus in the early hours, his eyes red rimmed, body stinking of sex and his shirt torn from collar to shoulder, his left eye was rapidly blackening and there was a smudge of something that looked suspiciously like blood on his neck. When questioned as to what had happened he mumbled something about Mikey being unreasonable.
Gerard's mood seemed to take a down turn after this. He would lock himself in the studio for hours on end and when he came out his eyes were a bruised shade of red and it was clear that he had been crying. Mikey on the other hand acted as though a great burden had been lifted. He met up with the band frequently and even came to the bus once (Gerard hid in his bunk and no one could bring themselves to ask him to join them), he discussed ideas for new songs and whenever they went to a club he was the life and soul of the party. No one could explain what had happened.
It was when Bob had taken Mikey to Starbucks a few days after that second argument that he gained a little insight into what was happening between the Way brothers. They had ordered coffee and slouched down on the ridiculously high stools to wait when Bob heard Mikey's cell bleep once with a message. Mikey's face turned ashen the moment he looked at it, concerned Bob asked what the message said. Mikey narrowed his eyes at Bob as though judging if he could be trusted, then wordlessly handed the phone over. The message read: mikey how could you leave me? why are you doing this? you know why i wont. we cant. i dont know why youre making this so hard. i cant do this without you. please come back i need you. im sorry. i love you. g. Bob stared at him, uncomprehending.
"What's he talking about Mikey?" He received only a blank stare in response.
Seconds passed in silence, then at last Mikey mumbled, "Never mind."
