Almost ten months later
The costume still fits, bulging in all the right places and none of the wrong ones. The beard still tickles his nose and even though he's only had it on for ten minutes he's already getting sweaty. He looks at himself in the mirror, pursing his lips and trying to get a feel for it. He tries a little Ho, Ho, Ho but it lacks conviction, it's just not the season for it, making him sound more like he's a pimp calling for his ladies than a jolly old man.
"Do I even want to know?"
Jared's voice comes out of nowhere, nearly startling him out of the costume. Jensen wasn't expecting him for at least another few hours.
"Uh," he answers eloquently, spinning around to face Jared. Somehow he feels just like a kid caught trying on mommy's make up.
Jared's leaning against the wall, watching him through half lidded eyes. "So this is what you do when I'm not around?" he asks, a smile lingering at the corners of his mouth. "See I knew you were too good to be true."
Jensen opens and closes his mouth a couple of times, because he doesn't really know how to explain and it's not like they've talked about Christmas yet, seeing as it's still forever away (even if Jared's already stocking up on gifts and humming Christmas music when he thinks Jensen can't hear him).
Jared laughs. "Come here," he says, beckoning with a finger.
Jensen is helpless to resist, so he crosses the room walking into Jared's waiting embrace. He buries his face in Jared's neck and inhales deeply.
"Your beard tickles," Jared says, pulling on Jensen's hat to make him look up.
Jensen lifts his head and smiles. "Sorry."
"You better be," Jared says with a grin, using his fingers to pull the fluffy strand of beard away from Jensen's mouth. When he's satisfied with his handy work, he gives Jensen a kiss.
"So," Jared says, lifting his head. "What's with the get up?"
"Well… uh… the mom of one of my families called to ask if I was doing the Santa thing again this year…"
"Yeah?"
"I told her I wasn't sure… but…"
"You really want to do it?"
Jensen sighs. "Yeah. But… I kinda really want to spend Christmas with you."
Jared grins. "And there's some rule saying you can't do both?"
"No, of course not… but I thought you were going home for Christmas."
Jared frowns. "Yeah, but… I kinda really want to spend Christmas with you, too, and if you're going to be here, then I'll stay here."
"Your mom will send me hate letters."
"My mom loves you, so I'm afraid she'll address those to me," Jared says with a grin.
Jensen smiles, already feeling a bit better about things. He's been doing the Santa thing for the last eight years, and there are families that have been with him since the first year. He's willing to scale it down and not take on any new families, but he doesn't want to disappoint the people he's been visiting for years now.
"You sure it's okay to stay here for Christmas?" he asks, flattening his hands against Jared's chest.
"Yeah." Jared grins. "We can visit our parents after New Year, right? It'll be like a second Christmas."
Jensen smiles, wondering why he was worrying about it in the first place. He should have known Jared wouldn't mind changing his plans.
"Speaking of New Year," he says. "Do we have plans?"
"It's October, baby, no one plans that far ahead." Jared frowns. "Except for Jeff. I totally just booked a location for his New Year's Party and I'm already in talk with the caterers."
Jensen smiles, hoping that the beard covers how forced it is. Jeff's done a lot of good for Jared, helping him set up his own firm and making sure there's a steady trickle of customers coming his way. Sparkly Balloons has grown so fast that it only took two months before Jared had to get an office and hire a couple of assistants.
Unfortunately Jensen hates Jeff. It might have something to do with the way Jared said Jeff name in every other sentence for two months straight, and meeting the guy didn't exactly make it better. He's way too good looking and smooth for his own good, no matter how married he is.
"He says hello, by the way. I talked to him this morning."
Jensen grunts for an answer. Jared might not have gotten a clue, but Jeff has and Jensen's got a feeling he thinks it's highly amusing. Jensen slides his hands up around Jared's neck and pulls him down for another kiss. Jared sputters when he pulls away, spitting out wet strand of Jensen's beard, but it doesn't stop him from stealing another drawn out kiss that makes Jensen's toes curl. He doesn't think he's ever met someone as fond of kissing as Jared is, but he's certainly not complaining.
"Did I ever tell you about the dream I had the night before Christmas?" Jared asks, leaning his shoulders back against the wall.
"I don't think so," Jensen answers, sliding his hands from Jared's neck and down over his chest. He finds Jared's nipples and rubs his thumbs over them until they stiffen, straining against the fabric of his shirt. When he's satisfied with his handiwork he slides his hands lower, over the ridges of Jared's stomach to his narrow waist.
"I dreamt about you," Jared says, sounding out of breath.
"Yeah?"
Jensen bends forward, kissing Jared's neck through the damp cotton of his beard. Jared sucks in a breath when Jensen slips his tongue out to lick the salt from his skin.
"You were blowing me…" Jared slides his hands down to cup Jensen's ass, pulling him closer.
"You didn't know what I looked like," Jensen murmurs, nuzzling his face against Jared's neck.
"You had the Santa costume on."
Jensen lifts his head to look at Jared. "And still you turned me down when I asked you out."
"I was scared," Jared protest, groaning when Jensen moves his hand to rest over the hard ridge of his cock.
Jensen smiles, nipping at Jared's chin, until Jared bends down to claim a kiss. "Such a dirty boy," he whispers against Jared's cheek when they break apart. "Dreaming about Santa touching him in bad places." Jared gasps, pressing his hips into Jensen's hand.
"Want me to blow you, baby?" Jensen asks, pressing a kiss next to Jared's ear.
Jared doesn't answer, turning his head to kiss Jensen again. The beard is getting wet and disgusting, strands of it getting caught between their mouths. When they break apart they're both panting and Jensen has a feeling he looks ridiculous, flushed with excitement and heat, and with the beard hanging in wet nasty tangles around his mouth.
"Take it off," Jared orders. "I can't… Not with the suit on."
Jensen laughs, pulling the beard off first. Soon the hat and the rest of the outfit lands on top of it in a messy pile until his he's standing in front of Jared in nothing but the boxer briefs Jared gave him for his birthday. He hooks his thumbs into the waistband and raises his eyebrows. Jared nods, so he pushes the boxers down his legs.
It's totally unfair how often he ends up being naked while Jared's still fully dressed, but Jared has this thing where he likes to look. Sometimes he does so much looking that Jensen nearly comes when Jared as much as breathes on him.
"Clothes," Jensen says pointedly. "Off."
Jared laughs and lifts his hands to the buttons of his shirt.
"Do you like the shirt by the way?" Jared asks, as he moves his fingers to the next button. "Jeff picked it out, said it looked classy."
"It's nice," Jensen says, gritting his teeth.
Jeff's picking out Jared's clothes now? There's something very much wrong with that picture and Jared's taking way too long getting the shirt off, he's probably lost in nostalgic memories about when he went shopping with Jeff.
"I said off," Jensen hisses, stepping closer and simply ripping the rest of the shirt open, sending buttons scattering all over the room.
Jared sucks in a breath in surprise, but Jensen already working on his belt, wondering if Jeff picked that out too or helped fasten it maybe.
"Jesus," Jared exclaims when Jensen jerks his pants down, pulling the boxers with them, and then he groans when Jensen sinks to his knees.
Jensen loves Jared's cock, it's long and thick with big, tight balls and a thick mat of coarse hair around the base, but as he wraps his fingers around it and licks at the tip all he can think about is Jeff and whether he's ever done this. He lets the head slip into his mouth, sucking hard and pulling a moan from Jared that's probably at least half pain. It's rewarding though, to feel Jared's cock thickening against his tongue, and for a moment he lets that appease him, sliding his mouth further down and then up again until Jared's fully hard, precome leaking from the slit.
Then he realizes Jared could be thinking about anyone while Jensen blows him. With his eyes squeezed shut and one hand at the back of Jensen's head, Jensen could be anyone with short hair, Jeff for instance. He pulls off Jared's cock with a wet slurp and licks his lips.
"Look at me," he says and he hardly recognizes his own voice.
Jared blinks his eyes open and looks down at him with a frown, probably hearing the odd edge to Jensen's voice as well.
"Are you okay?" Jared asks, running his hand down over Jensen's scalp to touch the back of his neck.
"I'm fine," Jensen lies. "Just fine."
Jared purses his lips and tugs gently at Jensen's neck, urging him to get up. Jensen obeys, getting to his feet and letting himself be pulled into the circle of Jared's arms. Jared kisses him, long and slow, licking his own taste from Jensen's tongue. It should be stupidly hot and it is, but angry thoughts are buzzing around like bees in Jensen's head and he can't help noticing that Jared's got his eyes closed again.
"You have to fuck me," he whispers, pressing his lips to the corner of Jared's mouth. "Please."
Jared doesn't answer but turns his head into another kiss, sliding his hands down to cup Jensen's ass. Jensen can't imagine Jeff bottoming for anyone, so they've surely never done that. That's one thing he gets to keep for himself. He pulls Jared with him towards the bed with his hands on Jared's hips. Jared stumbles along until he manages to kick his pants off at which point he takes the lead, backing Jensen up until the bed hits the back of his knees.
Jensen suddenly remembers the night they met and the way they fell onto the bed then. They've learned some control since then and this time, Jared guides him onto the bed, before following after. Jensen crawls further up until his head hits the pillows, spreading his legs to accommodate for Jared. Jared takes his time moving up Jensen's body, kissing, nipping and licking a path over Jensen's stomach and chest until he finds Jensen's mouth again, claiming it in a searing kiss.
Jensen squeezes his eyes shut tight and lets himself get lost in the pleasure, groaning when Jared's fingers find their way down between his legs, ghosting over his hole. He pulls his legs up further and Jared's slip a finger inside, eating Jensen's moan with his lips. Jared must have found the lube somehow, because his fingers are nice and slick, sliding in easily. First one, then two, then three, thrusting deep and slow until Jensen rises off the bed with every move.
The fingers disappear and Jensen opens his mouth to protest but chokes on it when Jared presses up close, cock nosing at his opening.
"You ready?" Jared asks, against his ear, voice thick.
"Yeah," he manages, clutching at Jared's broad back. "Please."
"You don't have to beg," Jared says softly, pressing his lips to the shell of Jensen's ear. "I'm all yours. Only yours."
Jensen doesn't miss the emphasis and he forces his eyes open as Jared pushes forward, stretching him wide around his cock. Jared looks down on him, resting his weight against his elbows with his hands curled around Jensen's shoulders. He's got this soft look on his face, as if he's been reading Jensen's mind.
Jensen pants for breath as Jared slowly pushes in until his balls are pressed flush against Jensen's ass, keeping his eyes locked with Jared's the entire time. There's no doubt now in his mind that Jared's in the moment, with him and no one else, and when Jared bends down to kiss him again, he allows his eyes to slip shut.
Jared takes his time, thrusting slow and sweet until Jensen can hardly breathe with the building pleasure. His cock is brushing against Jared's stomach with every thrust, leaving a trail of precome, and he arches up to meet every move.
"Yours," Jared breathes into his ear and Jensen groans, clutching at him with hands and feet.
They've had sex in all kinds of places and all kinds of positions, but this is the one Jensen likes best, on his back in a bed with Jared moving on top of him, hitting all the right spots without even trying. The sheets are soft against his back and Jared's huge and hard within him, rocking him to the core with every thrust. His fingers slip on Jared's sweaty back, and every breath comes out a moan as Jared thrusts harder.
Jared's showering his face with kisses, licking his way into Jensen's open mouth to steal a kiss. Jensen moves a hand to clutch at Jared's neck, keeping him close for another succession of kisses, sucking too rapid breaths through his nose until Jared lifts his head.
"Not going anywhere," Jared pants, emphasizing every word with a thrust. "Only yours."
Jensen groans, turning his head from side to side and moving his hands to clutch at Jared's biceps. It takes longer to come without a hand on his cock and it feels differently, but when his orgasm finally washes over him it's just that much more intense, building up at the base of his cock until it washes over him in long waves that tingle from his toes to his lips.
Jared keeps thrusting into him with his head thrown back and his eyes squeezed shut, drawing the pleasure out until Jensen’s whimpering from pleasure overload. He pulls Jared down for another open mouthed kiss and is rewarded by Jared moaning his release into his mouth, his thrusts going erratic as he comes deep inside of Jensen.
Jared collapses on top of Jensen, panting to catch his breath. He's stupidly heavy and Jensen's legs get bent into an uncomfortable angle, but Jensen likes the way their chests stick together with come and sweat, their rapid heartbeats mingling through their breastbones. After a few seconds Jared rolls off of him though, collapsing next to him with his head on the pillows.
They don't say anything for a few moments, the only sounds in the room being their rapid breaths. Jensen's starting to feel bad for ripping Jared's shirt and for his stupid bout of insane jealousy. There's nothing going on between Jeff and Jared, logically he knows this. His sudden spell of insecurity most likely had nothing to do with Jeff and everything to do with the question he asked Jared last night and on which he has still to receive an answer.
He wonders if there's a way to take it back without sounding like a complete twat, but maybe if he never mentions it again it'll just go away until the time is right. Ten months is a long time for him, longer than he's managed to make any relationship work before, but Jared has a history of long relationships, it's probably not as monumental to him.
It's just that he thought they were different, he supposes. He's never been scared of speaking his mind with Jared, even when his mind's been full of fluffy pink cotton. They discussed having a family on their first date; that kind of sets the bar real high. So he kind of assumed Jared would answer straight away and that the answer would be yes. It's not like Jared even likes his own apartment, or as if he still goesthere for anything but his mail.
"Jesus." Jared suddenly sits up straight. "What time is it?"
"Huh?" Jensen asks, still too lethargic to move.
"Oh fuck, it's four already. Hurry, put some clothes on."
"Huh?"
"I said hurry."
Jared's already out of bed and heading for the bathroom. Jensen looks after him as he disappears, managing a weak protest when Jared returns to throw an already cooling washcloth at him. He uses it to wash the come and sweat from his stomach before sliding it down between his legs to clean up Jared's mess.
"Hurry," Jared says pointedly, reaching for his pants on the floor.
Jensen blinks in confusion but manages to get up from the bed, heading for the bathroom to dispose of the washcloth.
"You don't even understand the concept of hurrying, do you?" Jared asks, throwing a pair of boxers on Jensen's head.
"Hey," Jensen says, getting annoyed now. "Maybe it would help if you told me why we are in a hurry."
"It's a surprise," Jared says, already pulling his discarded t-shirt over his head and stuffing it into his pants.
"Verbal abuse really puts me in the mood for surprises," Jensen says sourly, throwing the washcloth in the sink.
Jared walks over to him and grabs his face planting a kiss on his lips. "I love you very much," he says. "Now, will you hurry?"
Jensen can't quite hide his grin and obediently puts on the clothes Jared throws in his direction, actually managing to be done before Jared who has to hunt through the messy closet for a new shirt.
"So where are we going?" he asks as he follows Jared out into the hall.
Jared rolls his eyes. "Surprise, remember?"
Jensen pouts prettily as he puts on his shoes and throws on a light jacket. "Will I like it?"
"I sure hope so."
Jared doesn't give Jensen time to double check that everything is turned off, taking his hand and pulling him out into the stairwell.
"We don't have time," he says.
"If the place burns down I'm blaming you in my insurance claim," Jensen mutters.
"Did you use the stove today?"
"No."
"Light any candles?"
"No."
"Iron?"
"No."
"Straighten, or curl, your hair?"
"Of course not."
"Then what on earth is it you have to check to see that it's turned off?"
"I don't know."
Jared laughs and tugs on Jensen's hand to get him to hurry up. They're out on the street now, walking towards Jared's apartment and Jensen's starting to get really curious. There's no fancy restaurant in the immediate neighborhood and they're not crossing the street towards the parking facility, so he really has no clue what Jared has planned. He gets even more curious when Jared stops two houses from his apartment building, and punches in the code for entry.
The staircase looks really nice, brightly lit with fresh paint on the walls and on every other landing there's a big potted plant. Jared tugs him along up three stairs before he stops to ring a doorbell where the name on the mailbox has been taped over. An unfamiliar woman opens the door and smiles at them.
"Mr Padalecki, I assume," she says. "I'm Anna."
"Call me Jared," Jared says. "And this is Jensen."
"Welcome." She smiles and steps aside to let them into the hall.
"Where are we?" Jensen mutters, as Anna walks ahead of them into the next room.
"You'll see," Jared answers back and Jensen really kind of hates him.
Jared follows after Anna without taking his coat off so Jensen follows suit, stepping right into a spacious sparsely decorated living room, with huge floor to ceiling windows.
"This is the living room," Anna says and starts spouting off a load of facts about how big it is, how amazing the floor and how high the ceiling.
Jensen ignores her and looks around, since Jared seems to be hanging on her every insane word. It's a really nice looking room, with whitewashed walls and wooden floor, but the real selling point is the windows. He walks over to them to look outside, over the busy street and surrounding buildings, amazed by how little sound is slipping through.
Anna takes them on a tour of the rest of the apartment next, showing them the spacious master bedroom, the smaller guestroom and the kitchen, all the while telling them how amazing it is, as if they don't have eyes to see with. Jensen immediately falls in love with the kitchen, which is so much bigger than the one he has now. There's lots of working space on the L-shaped counter and it has the same floor to ceiling windows as the living room, but he thinks he likes the uneven white tiles above the counter best. They're just so nice looking.
"Pretty awesome, huh?" Jared says, coming up behind him.
"Yeah," Jensen says with a smile, touching his fingers to the glaze of the tiles. He turns his head to look at Jared. "But what are we doing here?"
Jared blinks a couple of times as if Jensen just asked the stupidest question ever. "What do you think we're doing here?"
"I don't know, I just asked you."
Jared blinks again. "I thought it was pretty obvious…"
Jensen frowns and looks around again, taking in the lack of personal affections and Anna's eager smile. "Oh," he says. "Oh…"
Jared laughs. "So… Do you want it? It's ours if we want it."
Jensen blinks. "Can we afford it?"
"Do you want the long answer that includes several mentions of your least favorite person in the world, or the short one?"
"Uh… The short one?"
"Yes, we can afford it."
Jensen licks his lips and looks around again, trying to imagine what it would look like being his and Jared's. It's not that hard, he can already see his kitchen table standing next to the windows, and Jared's awesome coffeemaker on the edge of the counter.
He catches Anna's eyes and smiles. "We'll take it," he says.
She grins big and bright and before he knows it he's singing his name next to Jared's on a bunch of papers, trying his best to read through them before the next one appears. His mind is still reeling as they walk out and he can't really believe it just happened.
"Did we just buy an apartment together?" he asks as they exit onto the street again.
"Yeah," Jared confirms, reaching for his hand and linking their fingers together.
"Okay… Good."
They walk in silence back to Jensen's apartment while Jensen tries to get the wheels to connect in his head. Jared's pulling in quite a lot of money at the moment, but he's not sure he'd be comfortable with Jared paying everything and with the new apartment that means they'll have four rents to cover between them, until they have their current places out on the market. Jensen's already juggling three different jobs, he's not sure he can manage a fourth one just to be able to live with Jared officially, because that would mean never actually seeing him. Unless he sells the movie script he recently finished and sent out to a few studios, he doesn't see his work situation changing any time soon.
"Okay," he says. "Give me the long answer."
Jared laughs and squeezes his fingers. "Jeff's company owns that apartment, or they did before we bought it. They've had it as a place for temporary consultants and guests to stay while in town, but they felt the place was really a bit too big. Jeff tipped me off that it was going on the market and asked me if it was possible we'd want to do a trade. We get that apartment and a few k and they walk away with both our apartments."
Jensen blinks. "So basically we're getting paid for our new apartment."
"Yeah."
Jensen mulls this over for a moment. "You didn't whip this up since last night, did you?" he asks.
Jared laughs again and tugs on his hand so that he ends up in Jared's arms. Jared looks down on him, with laughter still dancing at the corners of his eyes. "No baby, I didn't."
Jensen isn't particularly fond of being called baby. It gives him nasty flashbacks to his childhood and the period where his brother fancied himself to be the next Patrick Swayze and Jensen always had to be the girl, but Jared says it with such ease that Jensen's finding himself calling Jared baby in return.
He smiles back at Jared, reaching out to push Jared's hair out of his eyes. "You could have answered, you know?" he says petulantly. "It was not nice at all to leave me hanging."
"I'm sorry, sweetie," Jared says, giving him a quick kiss.
Jensen frowns because sweetie is a new one and he has objections. "I'm not the girl in this relationship," he says firmly.
Jared blinks a couple of times, then he laughs, letting go of Jensen in favor of grabbing his hand again. "I never said you were… honey."
"I hate you," Jensen says, but the way he winds his fingers around Jared's says he doesn't.
"Of course you do, buttercup. That's why you asked me to move in with you in the first place."
"I really hate you."
"Mhmmm."
Jensen squeezes Jared's hand and leans his head against his shoulder for a moment. Somehow it doesn't matter if he ends up spending the rest of his life working dead end minimum wage jobs, because one of them found him Jared and Jared's easily the best thing that's ever happened to him.
"Maybe I don't hate you so much today," Jensen says after a while.
Jared laughs and moves his arm to sling it over Jensen's shoulders. "I never would have guessed," he says and pulls Jensen a little closer.
The End
