Is emotional pain about survival too?

Saturday I downloaded all of my Stuart Davis music onto my mp3 player and yesterday I went out running, for the 4th time in a week!  I like running to the big hilly park near my house.  There's a little one that houses a electric transformer station and maybe a well and so you can't see all the way through it.  Though there's a nice playground and ( Read more... )

You bring up some interesting points. Although on some level I think emotions aren't necessarily about survival and instinct. But on the other hand, emotions obviously drive our behavior towards others and could be a factor in survival through building relationships, respecting and nurturing life, etc. hmmm... You've certainly made me think!

Seems like leftover mammalian issues - we're social by biology, and breaking of bonds causes pain. Pain of an emotional sort makes us want to groom other monkeys, and the tribe is strengthened.
