my food experiment

About 2 years ago I joined Weight Watchers and expeienced moderate success quickly as I began to change the way I ate.  I lost 35 lbs in the first 6-8 months.  In the 2 years since i have fallen away from making better food choices and slowly gained 25 of the weight back.  i'm still down 10 lbs so i consider that a win.  I also know that the choice ( Read more... )

For the past two years we've gotten more into buying organically grown veggies and fruits, grass fed beef and free-range chickens. The taste and texture are so different from the other! When I was a little girl I loved bananas. As I grew up I found I didn't like them as much any more. At the time I just thought my preference was changing. Just a few months ago I bought some organic bananas (Chiquita brand), and these are the same bananas I used to love as a kid! The texture is not waxy and the flavor is.... *swoons*

Might looking into organics too? The prices have come down in the last year or so making them more affordable.

Nice to see you post :)

Thanks Tam; it feels nice to post.
I really like to buy organic when i can. Price is a most often a factor. With the more processed foods i don't always see a big taste change but with fresh fruits/veggies i feel they taste better. With the foods made for shelf life, even though organic, they have been processed, or contain modified sugar/starch, albeit that started out organic. So sometimes i think it will come down to that as well. but yeah, on the whole i feel organic is better and i will be trying to incorporate more of that.

I'm utterly guilty of eating quite a bit of processed foods. I know that that, combined with a largely sedentary life style has led to my putting on weight (as well as middle-age spread). I have tried some of the "organic" foods out there (usually by accidentally grabbing the wrong product) and honestly, the only difference I found was that they were double the price with 1/2 the shelf life.

I do think adding in more fresh/frozen veggies is better as there's generally little processing going on there compared to canned veggies. Same deal with fruit. I generally have some type of fresh fruit every day and given the choice between chips/cookies/whatever, I try and pick the fruit.

Fast food is a deadly choice. I try to limit my intake of that to 1/week, if that. I think I'm helped there by the fact that I didn't have access to fast food growing up (the closest McDonald's was a 45 minute car ride away) so it's a meh sort of thing for me.
