I'm not sure how or when it got started, but the "Samhain was a demon and that's why Halloween is of the Devil" thing has been common in fundie circles for a long time now. Sometimes they say his name was "Sam Hain"... because we all know "Samuel" was a common Celtic name, I guess. *facepalm*

Wow. I did not know that. Sam Hain, huh? Yeah, that sounds Celtic to me! ::eye roll::

oh that sounds like Jack Trick!
(or the various other fundie doodieheads)

I've heard of this a couple of times - there are extremists stateside which use this "evidence" as argument in favour of their extremist ways.
Thinking like that is the same kind of insanity that produced Malleus Maleficarum - namingly psychotic paranoia with delusions.
(it's not a new delusion by any respect - or even by none at all)
