never never felt like this before

I wound up only teaching two classes this semester. This means money is going to be quite tight; I should be able to do things like send out the presents I have left in my apartment (because yes, I suck that much at getting Christmas presents out on time). But I probably won't have much if any to spare for things like traveling, which is ( Read more... )

Truly, my cousin, we are favored by the gods. And you especially. I cannot stress that enough. Although of course, simply being your cousin graces me with some of your favor.

I wish you much luck in your endeavors, then, and have no doubt you'll do excellently.

In other matters, I have a new Melisande: Lara Pulver. If you have not see it yet, see Sherlock, specifically the first episode of the second season, A Scandal in Belgravia. There is no other Melisande for me now.

Being your cousin graces me as well, my talented dear.

I adore Sherlock, but I am deeply un-fond of Irene Adler. Lara Pulver's bone structure is not ... graceful? some adjective ... enough for me to see her as Melisande, and I felt her portrayal of Irene was rather trying too hard (I think that was the character/writing, not her acting, but there it is). I did rather figure after seeing that episode, though, that she was going to start showing up on the fancasting lists for Melisande.

Well, yes. Her bone structure did bother me somewhat, as you said. And you're probably right about the attitude - then again, she was portraying a psychopath. But... the way she simply had complete control of herself, and the fact she was a gay dominatrix, and all that... Let's face it. Until now, the only one I thought could portray Melisande was Liv Tyler, and that was solely on account of looks (and a bit of the eternal calm around her, but it wouldn't have been enough). Lara Pulver did it so much better. She's still not my ideal image, but out of the small pool of possibilities, she's the best (maybe if we could take Liv Tyler's bone structure, Lara Pulver's attitude, maybe with a bit of Michelle Pfeifer or Charlize Theron... it's complicated).
