Happy Friday everyone!  I hope your the end of your work week is looking up and that you have nifty and exciting plans for the coming weekend, whether or not they involve playing WoW.  Sometimes a day at the beach in the real world beats a day raiding through icy tombs or fiery caverns in virtual worlds, so it is important to get out every now and ( Read more... )

*cracks knuckles* Let's see what I contribute here, being the pro fire mage that I am. ;)

Pyroblast - Hurls an immense fiery boulder that causes X to Y Fire damage and an additional Z Fire damage over 12 sec.

Thus Spake Skarlette: Before they added the Hot Streak talent, I very rarely used this spell because of the long cast time. It was a decent opener when doing solo PVE because it adds another dot in addition to the one from your basic Fireball, but stuff dies so quickly with a good fire mage pewpewpewing on it, the extra bit didn't really make that much difference.
Now, however, with Hot Streak procs, Pyroblast has become a major player in my rotation during raids. As soon as Hot Streak procs, I hit Pyroblast for a nice spike of DPS. That's the only time I cast it, but it's awesome then.

Molten Armor - Causes X Fire damage when hit, increases your ciritcal strike chance by 3%, and reduces the chance you are critically hit by 5%.

Thus Spake Skarlette: I don't know when you get this spell in the current beta build ( ... )

Ignite - 3/3 - Your critical strikes from Fire damage spells cause the target to burn for an additional 40% of your spell’s damage over 4 sec.
One of those talents that are making DOT’s a slightly bigger thing for fire mages? Seems that way to me. More damage is more damage though I guess.

Thus Spake Skarlette: I'm not one to pore over Recount and WWS reports line by line to see how the numbers work out, but the times I have looked at the spell-by-spell breakdown, Ignite damage is often my second-biggest source of DPS, after my primary nuke Fireball (or FFB, if that's the spec I'm using at the time.) The wording on this talent right now is identical on both live and beta, and assuming it works the same way when Cataclysm launches, it'll remain positively delicious. The best part? All that extra damage just happens without you having to do anything extra or even think about it. It just happens as you do your normal spells.
In short, you DEFINITELY want Ignite.Blazing Speed - 2/2 - Gives you a 10% chance when hit by a melee or ( ... )

Fire Power - 2/2 - Increases the damage of your Fire based damage over time effects by 10%.
... My only concern is that I wish it could have a different icon besides Warlock's Immolate spell, but that's meh.

Thus Spake Skarlette: Yeah, but you only have to see the icon in your talent tree, since it's a passive bonus. ;) Not much to say about this talent; it's definitely something you want to get.

Blast Wave - 1/1 - A wave of flame radiates outward from the caster, damaging all enemies caught within the blast for X to Y Fire damage, knocking them back and dazing them for 6 sec.
...Maybe someone who is more expert on mages than I am can let me in on secrets since this really isn't changing much from its current version.

Thus Spake Skarlette: Doesn't look any different from the live version to me. You're absolutely correct in what you wrote about it. It's awesome in solo PVE, kickass in PVP, and not really recommended for dungeons. You can use it to knock bad guys back into the tank's Consecrate/Thunderclap/Death'n'Decay if it' ( ... )

Pyromaniac - 2/2 - Increases spell haste by 10% if 3 or more targets are taking Fire damage over time from your spells.

Thus Spake Skarlette: This is quite different from the current version. Right now it gives you extra crit chance and mana regen while casting, and it's a must-have for me. This version is, as you said, geared toward AOE blitzes, which is quite different but also fun.

Combustion - 1/1 - When activated, this spell increases the critical strike chance on your next non-periodic Fire damage spell by 100%. In addition, when that critical strike lands, all of your existing Fire periodic damage effects will be merged into the Combustion effect, burning at the same rate but over 10 sec.

Thus Spake Skarlette: Whoa, this is a big change from what it is currently. In its current version, I always keep this buff on cooldown. Mmmm, crit. This new version is kind of...meh. :\ I totally agree with you, this change stinks and I hope they revert it.Hot Streak - 3/3 - Your Fire spells no longer trigger Arcane Missiles. ( ... )

Molten Fury - 2/2 - Increases damage of all spells against targets with less than 35% health by 12%.

Thus Spake Skarlette: A must-have for raiding. Extra damage in the burn phase is always crucial. Minimal use for solo PVE and PVP, though.

Ciritcal Mass - 3/3 - Increases the damage done by your Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, and Pyroblast by 3% per Fire damage over time effect on the target, up to a maximum of 9%.

Thus Spake Skarlette: A good, solid talent from my perspective as a PVP-phobic casual raider. From your perspective as a PVP-oriented master of all things explodey, I see your point, however. Living Bomb - 1/1 - The target becomes a Living Bomb, taking X Fire damage over 12 sec. After 12 sec or when the spell is dispelled, the target explodes dealing Y Fire damage to all enemies within 10 yards ( ... )
