It so easily explains and helped me figure out how to personally explain the situation to other people. Cause before I knew how to put it, I just ended up embarrassing myself and making myself feel bad when no it is my right to tell someone I am uncomfortable and exactly why I am uncomfortable around them.
I always feel so strange when I read things like this. Because I've never thought like this is my life. And I just feel like this outsider to my whole gender because I understand this less than most men.
I'm very glad you have never felt threatened and the like :)
Sadly, I have had a gamut of situations including one guy who not only wouldn't take no for an answer but literally chased me around and out of a store trying to run away from him.
I absolutely wholeheartedly agree with you that this article is sadly lacking in both dealing with acquaintance/date/incest rape. And also that rapes go so underreported and the atmosphere of fear it creates.
Not that it justifies it though, but I think that this article was more of a 101 for guys? I do think though that it should have mentioned alcohol as a factor in approaching women definitely. Overall I def agree with what you are saying.
You are a good and wonderful guy and have nothing to be ashamed about for it <3 It's scumbags and guys who buy into misogyny and rape culture that need to be ashamed, not you.
Sigh. Brush tarring. While I'm happily ever aftering, my BiL will probably be single forever. He had the misfortune to have three sisters; this is a little daunting.
I love this so much I read it to Scott. It explains the problem women face clearly. It's beautifully written, though I wish it included more about the rapists we've met and known and never seen coming.
The saddest part of life, at least to me, is that we all to have to think in terms of where we're parking, walking, eating, shopping, studying, LIVING, etc. constantly. There are days I feel I'm on high alert, especially after meeting someone who is undoubtedly creepy.
Seriously. One time I went into a local gas station with my dad and the minute my dad went to the restroom a guy started harrassing me so bad he chased me out of the store! And the clerks did nothing not even a sir please stop it! It's horrible and terrifying.
