I don't know if I'm much good at interpretation, but I'll take a stab at it anyway cause that's how I roll.

I think the burns on the person are like how you feel about their mental health... like, it's pretty raw and ugly and just generally fucked up but you aren't repulsed so much as sympathetic. Also, even though you have kinda removed yourself from the person, you haven't really let them go (left your keys behind, they came with you in the suburban). Still, they aren't really a "substantial" part of you anymore either (the bus going through them).

Yep, that certainly was a stab at it... I should do this for a living! ;)
