As so many others are doing, I'll share my interview experience as well. Thanks to everyone for your help in the last few weeks, as I've had a lot of questions to ask. And good luck to everyone!!
Rather than repost my lengthy writings here,
here is a link to my post about it on my own LJ. I apologize if it is not quite the tone or writing style it

I was an alternate - I got upgraded on May 1st and then I got my prefectural placement (I was contracted to the Kyoto Prefecture BOE) in June. I found out on July 4th that I'd be teaching in Kyoto City and at which school (my predecessor, JET coworker and supervisor all emailed me that day). I left with group B in August.

So, again, ESID! Whee, bet you're tired of hearing that one already, huh? But I'd say if you get an email from a pred or your supervisor, that they can answer questions like that for the most part, so you wouldn't have to wait until you get there unless, a) your supervisor doesn't contact you until last minute (and you have alternates if that happens), or b) you're a new post and no one really knows what you'll be doing (but rare).

Unfortunately, this is very, very ESID. Sadly, some JETs do not know anything more than the prefecture they are assigned to before they leave. Really! I think most people, however, do find out over the course of the summer. I probably hear in mid to late June. I think many people actually find out by tracking down other area ALTs online. I never heard from my school and my predecessor never officially received my contact information, but I found my prefectural advisor (PA) and they connected us to each other.
Really though (and this is for any one who might read this comment): Don't rely on your predecessor to email you!! There's a really good chance that you'll need to find them.
