Hey man, I know several men on JET with longish to quite long hair.

Just look well-kept and you should be fine. Ponytail it if it looks decent, maybe get a bit of a trim if it's looking sloppy.

Don't let it stress you too much. Just act like you're serious about the job for the interview.

They really don't seem to care as long as you look neat for the interview. Lots of Japanese men have sortof longish hair, especially young ones.

Thank god!

I only ask, as it it usually makes a difference in interviews I have had for jobs.

Now all I'd have to do is find a way to make the long and windy journey all the way to London without my hair turning into some kind of giant afro...

Gel works wonders! Don't worry though, I know many guys around here with long hair. Most of them tie it back, so that may be your best bet for the interview.

They actually made our new CIR shave his mustache/beard and cut off his hair. It was long, below his shoulders, though kept up quite cleanly, and now it's cropped short. But the CIRs are held to stricter standards in that regard, I think...not totally sure, sorry.

Oh, it's okay, I haven't applied to be a CIR- I don't know enough Japanese. I am applying to be but a lowly ALT.

Us lowly ALTs get paid the same amount as those big bad CIRs! Plus I get to see smiling kids everyday who scream out Mr. Brink when they see me. Granted some of them then turn and run the other way.

Well, if I get to teach in Japan I may have to find a way around my name (Burgess)- as many Japanese students at my Uni have the most profound difficultly in pronouncing it.
