Thomas Malthus has really come back into style, although an argument could be made that he never really was unfashionable given our collective fascination with doomsday scenarios. There's a comfort that goes along with all that The World Without Us stuff, even if we who are optimistic about the future find it rather dismal. And also the smug satisfaction that accompanies "I told you so."
