Elissa's memorial service was today in Athens, and it was really great. I don't have the energy to really post about it right now, but one is on the way. In the meantime, I'm reposting her music, including the stuff that has yet to be officially released ( Read more... )

Early in 2003 Elissa joined Town & Gown Players in Athens, Georgia. People began attaching themselves to her literally within hours. She played a whore in "The Rover" first--not one of the quality whores but more from the bargain bin--and later that season gave a tremendously moving performance as the aging classical actress Fanny Cavendish in "The Royal Family." She continued working with Town & Gown until spring 2006; her last performance was in "Quiet Desperation," a four-woman reading ( ... )

I had been planning for weeks to go to elissa's memorial, but at the last minute, wasn't able to go. I hope that it was as full of love and laughs as I remember her being.

I just want to thank you for posting all of this. I have known Elissa since we were in 9th grade and she has been an essential part of my life. The service on Sunday was amazing and I love that so many people realize how lucky they were to know her. I have a few "bootleg" copies of Elissa singing with Andrew Hyra and Christian Bush (they'd all had more than a few when the recordings were made) but they are on a cassette & I have no way to digitize them. Although the quality is not so good, I'm happy to send it to someone who can put them online or on a CD. -Ricky (krysiaricky@yahoo.com)

we all love elissa so much! she was a great friend of my moms and i love her so much. the last words she said to me was to sing. she said that she knew i should and that she knew i could do it. so i am going to always remember her saying that, and make her proud. i know that is what she would have wanted. i've known her since i was 6 years old. i am 11 now, and she inspired me to act and sing. i remember how much she made me laugh, and from what my mom tells me, i made her laugh too. we had a lot in common. my only wish is that i could have grown up to know her better. for her to come and see one of my plays. i miss her so much! and i know for a fact that she is making all those angels up in heaven laugh until their stomachs hurt.
