Saw that as well yesterday, I'm not exactly sure how or why anyone is surprised by it though. I'll say this though, they've sure got balls. This is the only Administration that has ever puffed out its collective chest and been so 10' tall & bulletproof - but of course, no one's shooting THEM.

I wonder if you saw this:

http://www3.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0410/feature5/

It was in the October 2004 issue.

According to a guy on NOW last night, who had presented just such a scenario to government officials, most of those in attendance weren't paying attention to his presentation but were instead, giggling amongst themselves in the back of the room.

I think what's happening here is that the administration is desperately putting their ass-covering plan into action. Basically the way of shifting blame for mismanagement of a foreseeable event is to try and convince everyone that the event was, in fact, unforeseeable and therefore nothing could be done. This is something I'm sure they came up with for terrorist attacks, because despite the war on terrorism bullshit, they know something else will eventually happen, and if they fuck up a second time, they'll need an excuse. Except they now have been given a chance to trot this little plan out for a natural disaster.

The fact that everything he says is readily debunked is what makes this all the more circus-like. It's passed into the realm of the truly ludicrous.

It does border on the absurd, let's just hope that the people now affected by the reality of this situation will rethink their support for these assholes and will push that energy around.

Heard a wonderful quote in the trailer for "Vendetta:" (incidentally, it sounds like a very good movie) "People shouldn't be afraid of their government. The government should be afraid of the people."

Just thought you might like to hold onto that.
