i just finished arkham asylum.  it was strange, to say the least, and the joker is one scary motherfucker.  i don't know much about batman outside of the framework of the movies and the animated series that came out in the early/mid-90's, so i didn't recognize some of the characters.  i have to say, though, it is pretty interesting.  i'm looking ( Read more... )

seeeeee? i told you comics can be "adult" books.

just wait until you read the long halloween, you will love it.

another one you may wanna read is Identity Crisis. it's not a batman comic, but it is a pretty dark and fucked up mystery story. very very good.

1 was quite impressed by the dark storyline and the shifts in action from past to present. also, the illustrations were beautifully done. i like the twist on batman: he's a hero, but far from squeaky clean or emotionally sound. he's more than one dimensional and, thus, closer to being a real person. this is more indicative of a hero born out of tragedy.

yeah, thats why i like bats so much. hes someone you can relate too. hes not an all powerful super mutant or something. he's human. but he can still hold his own against all the crazies and other super heros. hes not a goody goody like superman. he has his dark side and will do whatever he has to in order to get what he needs. except killing of course.

on top of that i like that he has a purpose. so many other characters do what they do because they have a power and feel it is their duty. bats has a reason. he watched his parents get killed and now wants to make gotham safe. he is emotionally invested.

so, see, comics can be deep and emotional and dark, they aren't just kiddie stories.
