The dog is named Miracle and they got him in the episode before when fake God was torturing them by making them the only things on earth. Dean found the dog and fake God took it away. When Jack absorbed fake God's powers and took his place, he restored the people and Miracle. And he restored heaven to how it was supposed to be. After all, he told them, the Winchester's taught him how to love.
Cool, thanks for the heads up. I might look that episode up now. I did see a bit of Jack in the recap at the beginning and figured he'd taken someone's position but didn't know any of the details.
i've been with it since the beginning (well, my first episode was when they showed that very first rerun episode - they start the show, but then a couple of episodes in, they have a rerun week? that was my first episode. it was Dead in the Water, and it aired between eps 7 and 8 (so says imdb))
anyway, i totally loved it, and i cried too.
but i'm confused at one thing - where did Sam's kid come from? we see him leave the bunker with the dog.... and then time passes and he's got a little kid. we don't see anyone else in the picture either. so i'm confused as to the circumstances of how Sam and his son end up as a family.
We're supposed to assume that Sam settled down with someone and and had a kid. A fan asked Jared about the scene playing ball with the little boy: "I asked Jared if the blurry person was supposed to be specific individual. He said no, that Sam's partner &/or co-parent was left open. He said that Sam's sexuality/gender is whatever speaks to us. Sam & partner(s) can be gay, str8, bi, trans*, cis... whatever we want. He did NOT use the term "wife". But specifically called her a co-parent."
I've also seen ideas that the boy was a tiny kid he rescued from a hunt and kept because his family was gone.
I first assumed the blurry woman in that scene was perhaps Sam's wife, but maybe not... she could have just been someone with whom he had the kid...girlfriend, partner, whatever. Who knows. I'm sure Jared made fans happy by telling them that Sam's life is whatever they think it is (though I'm confused about Sam being trans...he doesn't seem that way to me, unless I'm just misunderstanding the general statement he was making).
That last idea is an interesting theory, too. I could see it playing out that way.
It about gutted me to lose Dean. :\ I;m still depressed. But up next is Walker and the Boys. Im watching the Boys and have been for the entire 2 seasons so i'm excited to see Jensen in it next year.

I cried a lot. I've only watched it once, but I will again soon.

I don't know if I have the guts to watch it again... the parts involving Sam at the end left me so down for a while. I'll have to work up the courage!

i posted my question on facebook, and got the same answer there too. :)
that's the first thing i've seen about the kid, but that makes as much sense as Sam being his dad, too.

I've never heard of The Boys, but now that I know Jensen will be in it I'm curious to check it out.
