On the way to the station this morning I caught some colorful black and red bits amongst the foliage. When I investigated, I found that one of the wild blackberry (yes, yes, it's actually a black raspberry or something. Whatev') plants was already starting to ripen. My parents thought the same thing when they saw paths trampled in the berry bushes near their house. Then one day they saw a bear traversing one of those paths... :)

I think I can safely say there aren't any bears in the Lake County forest preserve between the golf course and the housing development. Although... Would it be wrong if I were to root for the bear? :D

The one thing I truly miss about the area where I grew up is the abundance of berries in the public lands. All summer long we were picking and freezing or canning some kind or another of wild berry. Nom!
