i have spent some time today reading articles from information clearinghouse about the current war on lebanon. if you haven't heard of or been to that site, i highly recommend it. it was born out of one guy's frustration with they way american media doesn't show a lot of important news. for example, stories straight out of lebanon that aren't from ( Read more... )

I'm still proud to be American, and always will be proud to be American. My one problem with this article is that Dr. Roberts is chastizing Bush for not stopping this Middle East Crisis. Since when did other countries want us, the medlling Americans, to help them (well since Iraq anyway). My belief is, that after Iraq, America should spend 5 or 10 years internalizing, making ourselves better, not fuck with other peoples problems. Since when did we become the "world police of earth"? and since when did other countries want us to be their road to peace?

i do agree that our president is an idiot, but the middle east conflict is by no means America's fault, let alone our mess to clean up. And I'm tired of other country's citizens trying to make me feel bad about being American. So our countries the weakest its ever been, as well as most conservative, but I was born here. I don't have any choice in the matter. We can't even fix our problems well, why do you think we can help theirs.

ben, i didn't mean any offence, as i thought i said. (maybe i forgot to write that.. i mean to offence, for the record.)

and i want you to be proud of your country. i also wrote a letter to our prime minister about lebanon. and in it, and always, i will state that i am a proud canadian. because we should be trying to stop israel as well.

however, the bush administration could stop this crisis by not funding israel. did you know that they sent american bombs, with better targetting technology, to israel? in the article, it says how the senate passed the resolution in support of Israel's war crimes, the most powerful lobby in Washington, the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), quickly got out a press release proclaiming "The American people overwhelming support Israel's war on terrorism and understand that we must stand by our closest ally in this time of crisis."i think what the writer was trying to say was that you, the american people, need to start speaking up and questionning everything your government does. it's ( ... )

shit, i meant *no offence

and when i said i was a proud canadian, i meant to elaborate and say how stephen harper is making me ashamed of my government but it will never sway my pride in my country. it shouldn't. and that's not what i was saying to you, ben. you should be proud of your country. you should be proud of your constitution and your people. you just should not follow your president blindly.

anyway, read more stuff on the site. it's not all like that.

Ben, all pandering and niceties aside, the single most powerful state the world has ever known can not shrug off responsibility for the world it tries like hell to mutilate and warp into its own image.

I'm gonna read that when I have a spare minute, because I agree that this stuff is important and that this Israel support is frustrating. Amanda's boyfriend is from Lebanon, and his grandmother still lives there. And is there right now. It's scary.

I must jet, but just wanted to say good job for posting that!
