So, just when things begin to look ok, the Big Man Upstairs hurls another banana skin in your path. I have a very poorly Oscar (my moggie) and he is going to see the vet tomorrow.
Poor little chap was so sick on Tuesday night and there I was clearing *it* up at 4am. Not something I would recommend. Since then he has been so lethargic and depressed ( Read more... )

Oh dear, poor Oscar and poor you. You must be worried stiff.

Dehydration - get a plastic syringe, you can buy them in the chemist though you may need to explain what you need it for, and use it to squirt water into his mouth if he won't lap. Just a cc at a time. He might not swallow much but his mouth lining will absorb some of it and it will make him more comfortable.

Poor boy, I hope he's better soon. *hugs*

adding my vibes, and -- seriously, if it's diabetes, it's not necessarily a death sentence. I freaked when my Spenser was diagnosed some eight years ago -- very young, he was only 7 but he'd had a bad fungal infection as a kitten and apparently it threw off his endocrine system.

Anyway -- it took me a few weeks to learn to give insulin without cringing, but the needles are very fine-gauge, the twice-daily treat means he tells me when it's time for his shot, and .. it really isn't a problem except that I have to find a cat-sitter who can give meds.

He had pneumonia as a baby and the vet told us to give him pediatric electrolyte solution half-and-half with water, in a syringe. You're probably home with him by now, but that helps the dehydration.

Hope it's something easily treated!
