Controversy, Crochet, and Copy Editing

Feb 24, 2006 19:35

This week, I purchased the long-awaited crochet manual by Bust editor and so-called "knitting superstar" Debbie Stoller, Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet: the Happy Hooker. I have Stoller's two knitting books, Stitch 'n Bitch (a Christmas gift from folkgirltwo or three holidays ago; I learned to knit from it) and Stitch 'n Bitch Nation. I knew I wanted to add the ( Read more... )

I like the tutone blues. You have good taste in colors.

Thanks! Actually, those are close to the colors I used in my wedding. The gals wore Navy blue, and I had candles in three different shades on the tables. Blair (folkgirl) helped me pick the colors out.

Can you really learn to knit from that book? I haven't the faintest clue how to do anything with yarn except crocheting the chain stitch. That's it. I want to learn to knit desperately. (but I have a problem with videos unless they're closed captioned) Also, what type of knitting do you do? Is it Continental?

I found the book to be a great teacher. The pictures are easy to decipher (so many pictures are really hard to figure out, I realized later), and the instructions are casual and funny. For knitting, I'd recommend the original book, Stitch 'n Bitch: A Knitter's Handbook. And this book I just bought has instructions for crochet (I haven't really looked at them except to refresh my stitches, though, because I learned how to crochet from a friend ( ... )

Yeah, and if I hacked off a good four or five inches, I'd be rid of the coppery bits I dyed a few years ago!

I don't really want to hack that much off now, though, because now that it's long, I like it.

Yeah, the hair is very long and luxurious! Don't cut off the coppery bits! They represent golden (or copper) memories!

New South Bury Haven Townington

So very true... the same thing is true on Long Island where everything ends in gue (pronounced "og"), Happague ("hap'pog"), Patchogue ("pat'chog"), etc. In NJ we have an obsession with wooden bridges... we have Woodbridge, Wood-Ridge, Ridgewood, Ringwood, and (just for comic relief) Ho-Ho-Kus.

I failed the personality test for the bank job

Considering the personality of the bank tellers I have experienced, I am intrigued by the concept that they can weed people out using such banal questions. Reminds me of a quote from TV, can you place it?

"...She won every category except congeniality, which is not something the women in my family aspire to anyway!"

Also I have a kitchen magnet that I have to scan for you; I hope you either find it really funny or may want to use it as an icon.

I wouldn't cut your hair; it's pretty like that.

Hey! I'm rereading this post to review my history with my current job, and I saw I never replied to this comment. And I should have, because it's funny!

SO true.

No, I can't quite identify that one. What's it from?
