on Sarah Palin

I try to avoid politics here, but I am starting to get a little angry about Palin.  I will refrain from ranting, but I thought those of you looking for more information on her might want to read this AP article discussing some of the claims made about her and against Obama in the last few days.

Also, I have to say that the idea of a President (which ( Read more... )

Thanks for those links.

I live in a rather Republican area and the lunch room was full of talk about her speech last night and how awesome she is. It was hard to digest.

Though at least they conceded that Obama was civil for asking the media to leave her kids alone.

I spent a while digging through some links on Wikipedia. Some things are less scary than I thought (she doesn't believe creationism should be on the curriculum, just that it be allowed to be discussed if it comes up), but a lot of it is worse than I though.

You said it.
The woman is mighty shifty if you ask me.

Her speech was weak-sauce. The first half was a near word for word rehash of her speech on Friday. She didn't touch on any specific issues. She just played low with cheap one-liners that weren't even genuinely funny. The community organizer line really got to me. Some of our most amazing American leaders and heroes in this country were community organizers at one point.
(please see Benjamin Franklin, Mother Jones, Jane Addams, Dorothy Day, Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King Jr.)
Her speech was full of half-truths and out-right lies and it was more suited toward a PTA meeting than a convention.

Yeah, I think I would be tempted to ask her how exactly acting as mayor of a town with half the population of the college I went to makes her a qualified, experienced politician.

That would be like me becoming head of Homeland Security, after two years of experience setting up laptops for FEMA.

i think maybe your rant part shouldn't be behind the cut. that way maybe people trawling the net for a little information about the candidates might hear you by accident. :D

I disagree with most of her politics and all, but more than that, I found her speech pretty unprofessional. All she did was make fun of Obama and crack snarky jokes. This isn't Last Comic Standing, FFS. She didn't even talk about health care or college funds or anything, it was just "Obama sucks and McCain was IN A POW CAMP! And I'm a soccer mom! And Obama sucks!" Ugh. And all the booing was pretty bad too. Have some class.

Yeah, and what makes me even angrier is that some of my friends on the right are completely enamored of her. One of my friends posted a lengthy blog about how amazing she was, which is what motivated me to start researching her.

I do find it hilarious that people who are condemning Obama for being all flash and no substance are such fans of Palin.

Also, I forgot to mention it, but the town she was the mayor of? 5,000 people. How does that even count for ANYTHING?

It's ALASKA! I mean, I was slightly worried about Biden because, you know, Delaware's kind of small and unexciting, but ALASKA?! No one lives there! There are more people in Rhode Island! (Seriously!) She's unbelievably under-experienced, and yet everyone's bitching about Obama. It's ridiculous. (I have flisters who are a fan of her/McCain too, and it just makes me sad.)

I did order my free Obama button online today, though! They said 4-6 weeks, though, WTF. :(

Yep, I'll say one thing -- she got me motivated to donate to Obama. I'm kind of lukewarm on him, but if THIS is the alternative -- hell, I'll campaign door-to-door.

Thank you for the links. The more I learn about Palin, the more frightening I find her.
