my secret dream

I was just out walking, listening to my walking music on my little iPod shuffle, and I thought: where did it all go wrong? Why am I not a rock star?

It could be because I gave up on playing the guitar and I am a terrible singer. I wish I could sing well. Even more than that, I wish I had an unusual and amzing voice, like Joanna Newsome or Chrissie Hynde or the guy from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!. The kind of voice you get addicted to hearing, the kind that makes even banal lyrics seem meaningful, and interesting lyrics sound like a message from God.

All I have, though, is a nasal, off-tune warble. Oh, and I can shout, too. I'm good at shouting. I'm sure I used to be a better singer, though. I mean, I sang in a couple of (strictly garage) bands- surely my friends wouldn't have let me sing if I was terrible? I think maybe I've lost the confidence to sing properly. I would love to take lessons, if I had the money. Singing is so much fun, it feels so good.

Also, I think I would be a good frontwoman for a band! As I walked along, I was planning all the interesting arm movements and dances and facial expressions I would use while I sang. I think I would be very entertaining! Also, I think I could write good lyrics. They would not be about how love is the most important thing in the world! They would be about dinosaurs, and how everyone's job is important, because we live in a society.

So do you want me to sing in your band? I would bring a lot of enthusiasm to the project!
