Title: 5 Times Sam Wished She was Better at Things Not Related to Science
Pairings/Character: Samantha Carter (with Sam/Janet)
Ratings: G
Words: 1, 114
Disclaimer: Not my character, not my show. Lol.

1. Writing

Samantha Carter hated reports. She wished she was as fluent in language as Daniel is. The only language she spoke was Science and it had not been very helpful when it came to writing reports in lay man terms. The grammar was probably not that much of a problem as to finding the right words to say. It had to be precise, accurate, yet understandable. It was hard, but Jack had told her it would be like writing a story.

But Samantha Carter was a scientist-she writes facts. Technically, she would be writing facts in the report, but she just couldn’t wrap her head around Jack’s logic. She would argue, and he would explain, and they would both give up. It was a vicious cycle.

Samantha would have tried to bribe one of the SG-1 members to write, but their writing styles were too different.

So there she sat in front of the computer, chewing thoughtfully on a chocolate cookie as she stared on. The cursor on the screen blinked at her.

2. Finding the Right Words

It wasn’t like she suffers from stage fright. She faces danger almost every day of her life, and she had no problems giving lectures and presentations. She could go on for hours explaining theoretical physics to a theatre of 500 cadets, or present a probable hypothesis to the General. But as she stood in front of Janet Fraiser’s door with the brunette looking into her blue eyes, her brain failed to come up with the right words to say.

“Hey,” Sam managed, feeling her cheeks burn up in a deep blush. Janet smiled almost shyly.

“Hey,” she said, clutching her black purse.

“You look....nice.” Sam started. Janet released a laugh.

“Are you alright?”

“Yeah, just....”

“Nervous?” Janet offered.

“Hmm...” Sam admitted, shoving her hands into her jean pockets and avoided Janet’s gaze.

“It’s okay Sam, it’s just me.” Janet reassured.

“I know, it’s just....it’s been a while.” Sam revealed.

“For me too,” Janet said, holding out a hand. “Come on, it’ll be alright. We’ll just have fun, casually. See where things go, what do you say?”

Sam let out a breath and took the hand, their fingers laced. She smiled.

“Okay,” Sam licked her lips. “Alright, fun. We can do fun.” She started, and then broke into a smile. “I know a place...”

3. Drawing

“What’s that?” Janet asked, peering over Sam’s shoulder. Quickly she slapped the drawing pad shut and looked up with an innocent smile.

“Nothing,” She said.

“Well, I saw something. And I want to see it.” Janet smiled, leaning down to kiss Sam on the cheek.

“Soon, I promise. It’s not ready yet.” Sam said.

The truth is, it is far from ready. Soon was a far stretched from what Sam wanted to achieve. She regretted not having Merrin teach her how to draw when the girl was on Earth.

Sunflowers were Janet’s favourite and it was her birthday soon. Samantha wanted, or hoped, to draw a card for Janet, perhaps scribble some meaningful words in it. But this is the fifth attempt. The first one was of course, horrible. If Sam thought Janet would be impressed with a sunflower that looked like it had been drawn by a five year-old, there won’t be any problems.

When Sam drew a “representation of herself” for Merrin, it had pretty much showed the extend of her artistic abilities.

She watched Janet closely as the woman made her way into the kitchen with a long t-shirt and nothing underneath. Sam had two choices-ravage the most beautiful woman in the Universe, or take the opportunity to finish her attempt at drawing a realistic looking sunflower. She gave Janet’s figure one more longing stare before opening her drawing pad with a sigh.

She has about a month to master this, and Sam was not one to give up.

4. Dancing

It would be nice to be able to dance. Sam could hold a tune, but when it came to moving, she failed miserably. She may have coordination and balance when it came to military-related purposes, but she was at an absolute loss when it came to the dance floor.

She remembered watching Janet with a mixture of love, lust and envy as the smaller woman danced around her, strutting her moves as she belt out “Hey Big Spender” on Sam’s birthday, in a pub, in front of everyone. It was slightly embarrassing, but it was probably worse for Janet. Sam loved every second of it, and a part of her hoped she could do something as amazing for Janet. She had thought of perhaps putting on a dress-Janet always love it when Sam showed more of her legs than she would like-and singing a love song at a karaoke bar. But Janet and her had a little unspoken competition between the both of them where the next gift the next person gives will have to be top the previous one. Singing does not top dancing and singing.

This is hard. Perhaps Sam could take dancing lessons in secret-but who will be her partner? Daniel could never keep a secret and Jack could never know. She didn’t picture Teal’c to be the dancing type, but perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Then again, if anyone asks, Teal’c won’t be able to keep the truth-the Jaffa seemed to hold a no-lying policy close to his heart.

Perhaps she would ask Cassandra.

5. Acting

Honestly, if Samantha Carter had a choice, she might have considered going into the world of theatrical performances. But her first attempt in elementary school with “Cinderella” had failed horribly, and she never thought of giving it another try. Plus, she never seemed to find enough courage to.

She did love science very much and being an astronaut had been a childhood dream, since before she can remember, so the small thought of going into acting have been pushed to a deep corner of her brain.

She thought about it as she lay sideways on her beige couch, channel surfing. A celebrity recognized by everyone, or a fellow SGC member responsible for saving the world on a weekly basis but forced to keep her real career a secret and receive no acknowledgment from the general public? It didn’t take Samantha long to know which one she preferred. It was the joy and adrenaline on the job that kept her going. Furthermore, watching theoretical physics become actuality was more than she can ask for.

Still, having the gift of acting couldn’t hurt. At least she won’t be so readable.
