When traveling to Dublin....

When traveling to Dublin, it is a good idea to reserve a hostel. It is a doubly good idea to reserve a room in a hostel that actually exists. Yes, you read that right. The full dramatics is behind the cut; Abby and I are physically safe (though emotionally exhausted), as is my bank account. We met quite a few Irish angels this weekend.

Wow, that is disturbing. Where did you find this hostel to begin with? Doing a search I could only find it on hostelbookers, so I'm guessing that's where, which is disturbing because I've used that site once or twice before with no problems (I usually go through hostelworld, though). I would write to them and tell them it's a scam if you haven't already. That is so creepy, complete with what have to be fake reviews. Did they give you a confirmation email when you booked it? Did they provide an email to be contacted at? If not, well, now you know these are red flags, and if yes, email the hell out of them if you haven't already ( ... )

I thought the homeless guy was pretty funny, after the fact.

I think it's a fluke thing, because a few tourism people that we talked to had heard of the place, but it hasn't been functioning as a hostel for a while... and yeah, it's not on hostelworld. The guy at the hostel we stayed in Friday night called hostelworld for us, and the woman told him that they took it down because they were unable to get in contact with them

I've yet to hear back from hostelbookers. The cell phone number as a contact and the obviously (they absolutely have to be) fake reviews are still sketching me out, but at this point I can't worry about it too much. At the worst, I've lost $22 for the booking fee, but I am going to fight to get that back.

I'm going to Krakow and Prague for break next week. We've triple checked the hostels. This hasn't made me lose my excitement for traveling - because like you said, I can handle just about anything that gets thrown my way now. :-)
