Naomi-

Dad and are flying back to Chicago tomorrow. I promised my Great Grandma Susan that I would never get on a plane mad at someone, so that’s why I’m writing.

I’m sorry that we fought and I missed you a lot this summer. Lots and lots of times, as I went through my Gran’s things, I saw stuff that made me think about you. ( Read more... )

Oh, man, that was marvelous.

Bravo, mystery writer! How creative and moving, with excellent research and characterization!

And I love the way you handled Susan's dispute with the others--having it as a theological dispute where Susan sees Peter as impatient is a great twist, and not one I'd seen before. I do think it's consistent with her character, especially after PC, because she would have learned from that experience to have more trust in Aslan's long-term design.

What a great job. I'll be reccing this widely.

Thanks so much for the rec! I'll write more once the reveals go up, but thank you in the meantime. I think several people found the story through your rec.

I really like this! I love how you worked in all the history, the big orange cat (ha!), and Susan, Lucy, Jill and Polly hanging out doing awesome things and being friends. I found it interesting to read excerpts from Susan's diary, especially the way she never writes the word Narnia or says anything directly about going to another world and ruling a fantastical country with Talking Beasts -- is that early caution what led her to later adopt the conceit of Narnia being only a game? It's also interesting that you have her disagree with the other Friends of Narnia on a theological point rather than deny Narnia altogether.

On a much more random tangent, the idea of Jill having been born in the Caribbean, or at least spent several years there as a young child, intrigues me. Did you have a deeper reason for that, or was it only for the sake of the bananas?

Thank so much! I'll write more after the reveal but the assumption, borrowed from a Narnia fic writer, is that Jill is Afro-Caribbean.

oh, Susan

This is so wonderful! I love how you've carried Susan's voice and story into 2011 vernacular, and all of the historical photos and detail were utterly charming and gave so much depth to the story.
