would it help to have your own copy of Matlab?

That's a nice idea, but my mother isn't even keen on me checking my email on her computer, I doubt she'd be all that happy for me to install a program on it (and then monopolize all it's time for a few days).
So if the Acadia thing doesn't work out, I'll just stick around here for a few extra days.

I'm going home on the 10th, but I can ask others about this. It's listed as one of our network applications so all you need is to know someone who would let you use their laptop and log you into the network. The library might also let people use it on one of their computers.
