I read it after my sister recommend it so highly, and the film I aleady saw too! And though I like the main cast Hillary Swank And of course the gorgeous Gerard Butler, both they did a good job, but though it didn't work for me! Yes, in most of all cases books are always better! My POV!
In my case, it's impossible to choose one book to recommend, but if I'd really must....I'd probably choose Shakespears collected works, coz you can find almost everything here. Love and grief, crime, conspiration, war, victory, comedy, word battles of the funniest art, sappy moments as well....he had found so many ways to express himself, its genius! So, if I had to choose only one book to carry with me, then maybe his collected works in one book!
I have to agree with the whole Hilary and Gerard casting POV of yours. yes they did okay but I'm pretty sure, considering the emotions the character of Holly has to display that they might have chosen someone more fit for the role than her, Hilary to me needs movies where she can run around, be serious and maybe kick some butt. Thats just my opinion though. Ive read a lot of Shakespeare in my time *oh the joys of high school* and yes, ur right, his work provide so much feeling and emption, but unless I was studying again, I dont know if I could honestly sit and read say Macbeth again..though I didn't mind that ;-)
Hello again, It's great to see that you've taken such an interest in the works of someone most people tend to find bores them half to death, so good for you. I have only seen parts of the old Romeo and Juliet film and I did quite like it, but the film of Othello, the older version, not the one done a few years ago, is really good too..I had to watch that in college about four years ago. The Iliad is a book on my to buy list, I'm not sure why, but I think it's just one of those things that you're either curious about or you're not.. Oh plz feel free to go on and on and on, I really don't mind ;-) m/m novels? any in particular? and yes fanfics are always good..there are some amazing writers on here!! *grins stupidly*
Films are never as good as books not ever and this is simply because our imagination musters up the best characters to play each part. Some film makers do do a very good job but for me it is never quite the same. This film didn't do the book any justice at all I felt.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt the film really let the book down. I can't help but think the casting of Hilary Swank as Holly was a serious mistake, but I will not watch the film again. The book..I intend to read that for a long time to come.
Hi. I didnt like the film either, I just dont think Hilary Swank is suited to chick flick sorta roles but I highly recommend the book. If you ever get round to reading it, let me know what you think! x
I haven't read this book, but it reminded me of 'eat, pray, love' by Elizabeth Gilbert. I laughed and cried at the same time when I read this ... way before they had decided to make a movie of it.
