Me and Portable Recording

Ever since I was a kid, I loved making audio recordings.

I remember borrowing a cassette recorder from my 3rd grade class (I think it was 3rd grade) and walking around my neighborhood with a microphone, recording various things. I may still have tapes of this somewhere. I should find and capture those tapes...

I remember making an audio recording with special effects where I did things like take a battery-powered Radio Shack electric motor from a project kit and run the shaft against the case area and use it as chainsaw sounds. I wish I still had that. I think I recall recording over it thinking that it'd never be of any interest to me.

I also remember throwing away a brown paper grocery bag full of photographs and negatives that I'd taken of different scenes in my bedroom because I thought they were useless. I guess they were, but I wouldn't mind seeing them again...

Just remembered one other aspect to all of this. At one point in elementary school we had to write a letter to someone, requesting something. I sent a letter to Olympus, asking about getting a Perlcorder. If I recall correctly, they sent me some promotional information about them... flyers and spec sheets and stuff like that. Long gone by now, obviously.
