All Americans are ugly when they're in Europe, it's the rules. When you come back in four monthes you can be pretty again! (unfortunately, if you want to keep your masculinity, you won't be able to sing tenor anymore...)

Blissfully, I'm completely isolated from most media, and even the Italian media that I do see means nothing, I don't know who any of the people are. But even better than ignoring Tsunami relief, I don't have to hear a thing about Brad and Jennifer breaking up.
Well, I hope answer "D" is the correct one. I loved Sienna and enjoyed the contrast with Florence. Because of its history, the city feels frozen in time. While walking along the streets, I felt like I would encounter a knight in armor or a troubadour as I turned the next corner. The nearly total lack of vehicular traffic was a nice change from the bustle of Florence. And yes, the Italians seemed friendlier in Sienna - their economic health is probably more dependant on tourism.
Isn't the Piazza del Campo amazing? Too bad you won't be there for the races. Livio says it’s a wonderful time. Maybe next trip?

P.S. Did you see St. Catherine's finger in the catherdral? We Catholics can be a little strange...
P.P.S. Did you have any of Sienna's famous ice cream...?
I did see Catherine's finger, and her head too, which was creepily encased in wax. The gelatto in Sienna was funky though, I think i prefer Florentine gelatto, but who knows, they're all probably made by the same large Italian company in Rome.
Jeff Karen sent me the link to your journal. Very interesting. Sounds like you are enjoying yourself. It has been a few years since I was in Italy. I hope your studies go well and you tour as much as possible. If you get bored we have a spot in the warehouse for you but you may find things there to keep yourself occupied. Be Well Dave Gainsley
