Vodacom 3G router woes

I finally got around to poking at my 3G router to figure out why the hell the "Connect" button on the web interface was always greyed out. Here's the email, sent from Vodacom's web interface. Note, in particular, the disclaimer on the top of the page source...

Vodafone are branding routers now? You couldn't pick up a standard linksys router from a shop?

It would have to be a Linksys WRT54G3G to work with the 3G data card Vodacom gives me and it comes with the same firmware. Buying one would cost me about R2100. Getting one from Vodacom on my contract costs R100/month for two years.

Yes, but I pay it off over two years which means it ends up about the same when you factor in the interest. Also, it means I don't have to shell out a big chunk of cash upfront.
