Still holding up as a nice satire of city politics, but I can see why modern kids might avoid it. Definitely a bit dry in the prose department for the Short Attention Span set ( Read more... )

I would not at ALL put that past Ms. Merill. You may, however, be one of the first to mention it publicly, because googling "pushcart war" "wandering jew" gets me nothing of significance.

After almost fifty years you'd think somebody else would have noticed. OTOH it isn't like he's dispensing Ancient Wisdom to anyone.

By the way, that's JEAN Merrill, not JUDITH. Judith was a well-known author of SF/F and even more an editor of same; Jean was a writer of children's books.
