I feel sorry for both of them, really. The Groupmind's stuck with a terrible compromise because it's JUST smart and wise enough to know it doesn't really want to go whole-hog The Humanoids on everyone, but not quite able to "let go" enough to let human beings make sometimes-fatal mistakes. The humans are stuck knowing that the Groupmind and their Morphs really, honestly, no-fooling care for their well-being and sympathize with their plight, but are still willing and able to treat the entire species like children and protect them for their own good.

It's a terrible situation for both with no trivially easy solution that satisfies both sides.
