I want to put it in my mouth

OK, so if you know anything about me and technology (not anything about *me* because there are way more important things to know about *me* - I'm married to a wonderful Kris, I have a beautiful daughter, I work 58% of the time I'm at work, etc.), it's that I'm not easily swayed.  In 2004 at a training near the Quad Cities, I saw my first Mac (the ( Read more... )

oh, and if you're going to be reading what's actually going on in our lives, you'll be reading Kris's journal...this is just insane ramblings.

I'd really like a MacBook, but I just can't afford it. : / I can't justify spending almost double what I could on a PC for a comparable Mac, even though I've used Mac's at worked and loved them.

Well, what you're really unable to do is buy a higher-end PC then - Apple doesn't make (and doesn't want to make) a machine to compete with something like Dell's Dimension 1505 series (which both of Kris's brothers have; the two of them together didn't spend a combined $1000)

See, if I was to buy a Windows machine instead, I'd want something like a Lenovo or a Sony Vaio. They've got material/build quality and components comparable to the Macbooks. And prices are pretty similar.

I can definitely understand not being able to afford it. If Kris hadn't gone back to work, there's no way we'd be buying two MacBooks, either.

There were some really well priced Sony Vaio laptops at Best Buy when I was looking. I may end up getting another Toshiba for around $800-1000. That's pretty much my price range. I know that's not top of the line or anything, but it will do what I need. I don't game - at least not of the WoW variety - so I don't need anything super duper snazzy in that respect.

In your infinite nerd wisdom, what would you rec for someone like me?

You know the entry level Macbook is technically in that range (999 is hard to take, I guess, but it's less than $1000, and if you buy from Amazon they'll ship it free and skip the sales tax.) :)

DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!
