Tuttle Creek Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

I wish I had time for this kind of thing more often. I just watched About A Boy, drank an appletini (my sister needs to work on her martinis...but not too shabby all in all), and chilled in Aggieville for a day. I really enjoy that movie...it elicits a slew (SLU) of emotions that have no name. I feel like the Inuits would have a word to describe ( Read more... )

I always feel like a dolt no matter what books I am buying. I feel like no matter what I buy, the dude behind the counter is judging me. I think I need therapy.

That reminds me of last summer when I would make one Borders trip a week to consecutively buy the Harry Potter books (yes, I hadn't read them all til then).

Have you ever actually known the person behind the counter though? One time it was a friend of mine, but she just said "Oh, I've been meaning to read this too" and it wasn't awkward or anything, haha.

I also feel like if I'm buying something they'd consider too high-brow they assume I won't be able to appreciate it. Working in a book store is the equivalent of music snobs working at Homer's. This does not apply to DBK.

heh...yep. I do feel for the people behind the counter though...really, for everyone [in my role as Earth Mother, I have compassion for all]. So many odd little conversations. Last time I was at B&N I had to buy some Nietzsche for class. I've never had a more fulfilling conversation about the presence of five consecutive consonants in someone's name.

Which Palahniuk did you buy? I've only read Fight Club (regrettably after I viewed the film).

I got "Invisible Monster" and "About A Boy"...the latter by Hornby. I'm reading that one first but really not reading either one until I have some down time.

So I went out tonight... actually this will be my own lj post...

On a different note, don't be in such a hurry to leave and think that moving will be a big change. It's about the same everywhere.

That's what I was kind of afraid of...although I think it depends on who you meet there, eh? It has to be better than continuing life in a town with nothing left (or very little left) though doesn't it?
