I meant she was the female bubba since she is pro-gun, pro-life, pro-hunting, and pro-oil drilling everywhere. I had a caricature in mind, but not Bill Clinton. Sure, we should be worried since getting lax is usually fatal, but in any reasonable country, putting forth someone like Sarah Palin would be a bad joke.

But are we a reasonable country?

Oh, I understood you weren't comparing her qualitatively, but you made me think about it, and in looking at the reactions to her out there among a certain population, and in learning more about the way she talks, etc., I can definitely see her having an appeal to a great number of people on that Bubba level ( ... )

I see your point. As the weekend goes on, I realize the evil brilliant strategy behind all this. And I hope the voters are not dumb enough to fall for it. Or are they? I want to turn Sarah Palin into a punchline, not a vice president.

I know. That was my first reaction. Of course it didn't hurt that I heard the news listening to a morning pro-Obama political comedy show, The Stephanie Miller Show, and she treated it that way immediately. However, as I started reading, I don't know....

Many of the particularly crazy right-wing groups seem to like her a lot, which tells me everything I need to know about her.
