I tried making a little cap for E. It looked great in fleece as a mockup, but it looks like ass in velvet. Puckery, uneven, too-small ASS.

I wonder if I should bother with trying again or just ditch the damn thing and move on to something else. :/

While I think you certainly could make a fabulous hat (did you cut the velvet peices on the bias? fleece has lots of stretch and velvet has less) but the real question is will he wear it? If he won't wear it then I say don't waste time on it :-)

I didn't think to cut it on the bias - thanks for the suggestion!!

And yeah, when it is cold outside, he's happy to wear a hat.

Ah, the wonders of clothes for our little ones. I've so been there. I'm working on pseudo Victorian stuff for mine right now for a cold-ish event that we are attending on Sunday. The yoked gown that I did for the 3 1/2 month old was cute in planning, but kinda lumpy and uninspired in it's execution. Good luck!

I know this is probably an anathema to some folks, but have you tried some stretch cotton velvet?

I found some in this gorgeous Chocolate brown which I made into my Brueghel jacket. It wasn't too stretchy, and I interlined that with cotton so it was stabilized. It might just be perfect for this project...It looks darling...I understand if he won't wear it it may be a waste of time...but it sure is cute!
