Is anybody here interested in coming to our super-cool DFWCG hat workshop this Saturday? If so, please let me know soon because we need a headcount for supplies. Tell your friends too. We'd love to have a lot of people come to this one!

Hey you! I've been meaning to contact you--your dress form is sitting around doing nothing in my apartment right now. If you're going to be at the workshop, can I turn her over to you there?

totally off topic but I thought you might like some of the maternity patents from 1890-1920 that I have been searching through. Several Skirts and dresses. "gestation" didn't turn up many patents, "Abdominal" mostly corsets and belt, "Nursing" does bring up some blouses, but mainly bottles, "Pregnancy" did turn up a few interesting items, including a shoe patent!

What did you think of that Maternity Fashion book? I thought it was a little light on historical but still interesting.

Hey JenT--

I apologise for veering way off-topic here, but I wanted to make sure you got the message.

I was doing a web search this morning, and ran across a page that is using what appears to be an uncredited copy of one of your photographs. That is, it's a photo of you in costume, and they're using it without, as far as I can tell, any mention of where they got it. The webpage is here: http://www.brandonsd.mb.ca/crocus/library/social_classes_in_shakespeare.htm

I'm hoping they contacted you and got the appropriate permissions, but in case they didn't, I thought you should know.

Oh, and I dearly wish I was still close enough to go to the hat workshop. *envy*

Its BEAUTIFUL!

It looks like the only boning in the hips in in the back, just to keep it from bunching... but it still looks like there are wrinkles in the hip pieces... did that bother you? Did they roll? Was it uncomfortable?

What did you like and not like about this pattern?

Do you do period costuming only or customize work as well? I do both, and it looks to me like although its a beautiful classic pattern, that some alterations may need to be done to it for some body types.. (lengthing its coverage of the hips, giving it a slightly higher front for wearage as an outer piece (certainly not period running around in your unders in public!)..

Thoughts? Suggestions? Problems you came across during construction? What would you think about using a spoon busk with this pattern?

Ill be reading your progress diary... it will probably answer more than a few of my questions... but Im antsy sometimes.

Thank you!

There aren't any wrinkles in the hips when it's on a real body. It's just the make-shift pillow dress form that causes that. And it doesn't roll or pinch or bunch or anything - very comfortable.

I don't have any complaints about this pattern - it all went together beautifully and makes a really nice hourglass shape.

I only sew for myself, so I can't help you with that, but I barely had to alter it at all for me once it was scaled up except to lengthen it. I thought it had sufficient coverage in the bust area, and it wouldn't work well to lengthen the bottom because those hip gores just flare OUT instead of curving over your hips. You've have to redesign that into two or more pieces if you made it any longer. A spoon busk would be nice though.

Good luck!
