Lost Fic Challenge #44 - "REGRETS"

May 05, 2007 22:28

For lostfichallenge #44-Regrets. 350 words, which fought like hell not to be born. Angst. Character death. No doubt a waste of your time. Just so you know, the way it ended up is not what I had in mind...

On the other hand, the lovely icon was made for me by hendercats. Thanks, my dear, for the pretty. Thanks, too, for trying to make this better. It was doomed ( Read more... )

Yeesh. Painful. But I really love it. Especially the last three paragraphs. The ending is sad, and I have no trouble believing that it wasn't what you wanted, but I get why the story wanted to end there, and even if it's sad, I think you got it just right.

Wonderful work, hun. ♥ And thank you for entering the challenge.

It really wasn't supposed to go that way. I don't know what happened, but it took a turn and made itself short and anything but sweet. Thank you for braving the angst, for reading and for commenting so nicely. And it is my pleasure to have been in the challenge.

No doubt a waste of your time.

Oh, I don't think so at all. Yes, angst!fic tends to be a weak genre, but you've pulled it off well. Especially balancing the sarcasm and the sweetness (almost sappiness) that we see in canon!Sawyer. And the emotional and adjustment issues that we see in canon!Kate, too.

Thanks very much for your kind words. Don't have any idea why it took the turn it did, but sometimes a ficlet will do that to you. I think I'm having anxiety attacks for the season finale!

That was amazing. Very beautiful and poignant.

He took to calling her Miss Scarlet. Who? she had asked, and he had handed over his copy of Gone With the Wind.

This was probably the best part for me. The comparison just rings so true.

You know, that reference is one of the things that just appeared as the ficlet took that right turn, all on it's own. I have no idea where that came from. Thanks for reading and commenting on this piece of depression.

I don't even particularly like the 'ship, but you sold it to me in this. Wow, that is quite a compliment! Thank you. I'm miffed at Kate for using Sawyer the way she is this season, but still stick with this ship for him in the het waters. Thanks for reading a non-ship, too! (cute icon)

She'd had him, body and soul, from the day they met, though neither would have admitted it at the time. Oh. Oh. This is beautiful and heart-breaking, and most definitely not a waste of my time, it's a great description of the relationship between them. She ebbed and flowed like the tide, with him sometimes, against him other times. I loved that. I also liked the "Gone with the Wind" comparision, that fits, and the last two lines, my dear, made me all teary-eyed. *sniffles*

Thanks, darlin', for reading such a sad ficlet involving our het OTP. I don't know why it took such a dark turn - that wasn't where I was going at all - and I also don't know where that GWTW ref came from, but it sure seems to fit Kate and Sawyer. Wish she would just grow up, already!

*Huggles you*
