Srs bizness later; lj is not the place for such things!
What lj is good for, however, is wasting time. The Sheepman linked me to an article on Miyazaki @japanator.com, which in turn led me to their
Top 50 Anime of the Decade list, and I decided I'd go through the list and offer up my own inane commentary/thoughts. Briefly. Whenever I feel like

I LOVE both Evangelion and Gundam Seed. Evangelion especially. It loses something if you've been spoiled for it, which I think most people have, but I remember being completely blown away when I got it for Christmas one year and watched the entire thing in a couple days. Seed took a little longer for me to get in to but once I gave it a chance I really loved it.
You think I'm the only person who's disappointed that Revolutionary Girl Utena didn't make it on that list?

I do plan on watching Evangelion at some point! I think(?) I've been spoiled, but it was such a long while back that I don't recall what the spoiler was. Eventually I have to see it, since it's, you know, A CLASSIC.
Utena was from the 90s, wasn't it? This list only covered titles from 2000-2009. (Until I recognized that I was full of righteous indignation when I didn't see Cowboy Bebop on the list.) With my giant genderplay/feminist button, I shall have to watch that at some point.

I had the same reaction :P
However, the same thing goes for One Piece, for me. Greatest anime evar! (imho :P)

Yeah, definitely recommended to us by a guy.
Aaand that would explain some other things (yes, including Cowboy Bebop!) I was expecting to see on this list not being there. Derp.
But the real point of this reply - oh my god watch Utena. She's my favorite heroine ever. Its so messed up and weird and fantastic and I just love it. Absolutely my favorite anime, no contest. It's withstood the test of time better than Evangelion (again, imho), and is the kind of thing I just HAVE to go back and rewatch periodically. It still seems so fresh every time I see it. They had a really shitty production budget, and it's still so cool to look at what they chose to spend their frames on and pick the scenes apart. I JUST REALLY LOVE IT OKAY!

I'm actually more indifferent/passive to this list than anything else - mainly because I've kind of moved beyond anime series. They're just very tedious to get into now - I honestly think the last one I faithfully watched was Samurai Champloo.
I'm much more interested in the shorts and films, particularly the ones coming out of Studio 4°C.
