I saw the Golden Compass in a sneak preview this weekend. I guess I'd rather not say what I thought of it, for fear of spoiling. I was inspired to reread the book yesterday, and P. Pullman's infantile and backward theology aside, boy howdy is he a good storyteller.

I found the books so stupid (well, the third--the first had some seriously nifty imaginative bits and the characters a semblance of dimension, if no complexity) i don't want to waste a penny on the movie.

Perfectly understandable. The first one is by far the best. I can't imagine how they're going to make two more movies given the way this one turned out... but then, they keep cranking out the Pirates even though they've lost the vision.
